You're Welcome Folks

Life on the road can prove treacherous. No one understands this better than a touring musician. When you spend more hours on four wheels than on two feet, the comfort of a clean bed and a warm shower quickly transforms into the highest of luxuries. Since 2003 Indy Hostel, nestled in a SoBro corner at 4903 N. Winthrop has opened its arms and served as a safe haven to road-weary globetrotters of all stripes.

It makes perfect sense that a destination with a reputation for embracing cultures from all over the world also knows how to throw one helluva block party. This Saturday, Indy Hostel will host the fifth annual Indy Folk Fest.

Despite the name, this eclectic, Hoosier-heavy lineup ensures that Saturday's all-day affair ain't your granddaddy's unplugged hootenanny. From the experimental solo material of Michael Kelsey to the funk-infused, contemporary Afrobeat ensemble Sweet Poison Victim, this rockin' roster has a little something for everybody.

There will be performances from local comedy troupe, INDYPROV. Volunteers from Freewheelin' Community Bikes will be on hand to manage a bicycle valet service for listeners arriving on two wheels. Upland will pour local libations.

Tickets for Indy Folk Fest are $10 online and available at LUNA Music, Broad Ripple Bagel Deli, Global Gifts and Good Earth Natural Food Co.
