“What’s Past Is Prologue” at the Park

The Tempest, William Shakespeare's last solo-written play is more than 400 years old. But the tale of betrayal, sorcery, revenge, first love and some plot-critical weather systems remains one of the Bard's most popular later works. It's full of magic -- from actual spells and spirits to romantic chemistry. Royal brothers plotting against one another to be Duke of Milan entertain fans of political intrigue. But the play isn't overly heavy, as comic foils Trinculo and Stephano offer moments of laughter amid the drama and romance.

The Tempest's wide appeal makes it a perfect choice to celebrate Shakespeare's 450th birthday, which is what Heartland Actors Repertory Theatre (HART) will do this Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the canal at White River State Park. The event is free, though special seating tickets are for sale. Before the production kicks off at 8 p.m., food trucks, bands and Sun King beer will be available.
