Welcome to the Neighborhood

Saturday, local breweries, food trucks, several rock bands, a psychic and more will descend upon Indy's historic Cottage Home neighborhood for its annual fall block party. Costumed revelers of all ages are invited to partake in the Halloween-themed event, which is operating under the title "Beyond The Mystic Moon" this year.

The musical offerings promise an eclectic showcase of veteran Indy musicians. I recommend arriving early for Phil Reavis' set. For a primer, scope my Musical Family Tree feature on Reavis' experimental home recordings from the 1980s. Less adventurous ears need not worry. Reavis is pumping out more accessible sounds these days.

Other auditory can't-misses at this year's Cottage Home Block Party include Brian Deer and the Achievers and Pork & Beans Brass Band, both of whom rocked the nearby Tonic Ball in Fountain Square last year. However, with groups such as Deckademics DJ School on hand and kid-friendly activities including pudding eating contests, there's a little bit of something for everybody at this neighborhood fest.
