TTK: Two Sheets to the Pen?

TTKs are Sky Blue Window's 'Things to Know,' events, ideas and cultural creations that we think are worthy of your time and attention.

Susan Orlean uses it to wind down. H.L. Mencken composed an essay on how to do it in a gentlemanly way. And many writers did it in some lovely historic bars (or maybe they didn't?). The "it" here is drinking potent potables, to put it in Trebekian terms.

Writing and drinking have long been connected, sometimes with mixed results. With that link in mind, the marketing (and online magazine-publishing) crew at Well Done will raise funds for Second Story in a novel way Wednesday night with a Pub Scrawl.

The concept -- people with stories gather together, make their way around Fountain Square, visit four local bars, share a pint or two or three, and "pour their hearts out." Organizers have writing prompts planned, in addition to an opportunity to share work at the final stop. They're calling it "Pub Scrawl." To us, it sounds like a creative writing workshop gone fun.

We'd recommend adding some contacts to your phone before you head out. You might need a taxi or an Uber or Lyft driver, right?

Extra Credit:
· An interview about The Trip to Echo Spring, a book about a half-dozen immensely talented writers for whom drinking was a problem, including Raymond Carver, Ernest Hemingway and more.
· The preferred drinks of several literary stars, including a few of those in the book mentioned above. In other words, tread lightly, friends.
