The Revolution Will Be Typographed

Design and social change may seem like odd bedfellows, but art and revolution have long worked together. Think Shepard Fairey's "Hope" or John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Bag In or Bed Peace

Responding to the wave of protests in the last several years, from the Arab Spring to Kiev, and increasing frustration with Spain's economic conditions, Octavio Pardo set out to create a special typeface for posters.

The design is named Tiananmen, inspired by the Chinese protestors who stood in opposition to their government in 1989. Pardo created several iterations of the design, creating five fonts -- Strike, Riot, Revolution, Guerrilla and Symbols.

After designing the font family, though, Pardo reports that he needs a bit of support getting them hosted online and available. So, he's launched a Kickstarter fund to get support. Awards for backers include the font package (which will be free for protestors, but will have a commercial license fee), T-shirts with fonts and printed copies of the process book. Fund your revolution design, and wear it too?
