Re: “The Top Three

This is way too difficult: I think I may have been more affected by musicians (Cat Stevens, Paul Simon, Janis Ian, Don McLean) and songs (Imagine, Father and Son, At Seventeen, Heart of Gold, etc.) than albums. I have not typically listened to one album over and over and over--at least until recent years, when I sometimes do that. But here are 3 albums that affected me when I was young and still mean a lot to me: Cat Stevens, Tea for the Tillerman (but also Teaser and the Firecat and Catch Bull at Four). He was the first musician that I really admired, listened to full albums over and over, and still do!
Paul Simon, Paul Simon. Duncan, Mother and Child Reunion, Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard--We all loved Simon and Garfunkel, but when Paul Simon did this first solo album, his individual talent blew us away--and blew me away.
Janis Ian, Between the Lines. Great songwriting, spoke to me as a college student thinking about adolescence.
But of course other albums have affected me in subsequent decades! Too old to pick just 3.
