Night-night stories by Indiana Pacers

Indiana Pacers starting forward/guard Solomon Hill's 6-foot-7-inch, 225-pound frame makes him a force to be reckoned with on the hardwood. But when he reads the funny children's book "How to Babysit a Grandpa" by Jean Reagan, he sounds like a big softie. In a happy coincidence, the story is about role reversals: a little boy reassures his granddad, who's been left in his care.

Because Hill has more experience taking it to the hole than taking kids on literary journeys, he sounds less like a professional voiceover artist and more like a typical parent or sitter reading to a kid. Which is a good thing. He's just one of the players and members of the Pacers organization who reads a popular children's book on a recorded hotline. Kids of all ages are invited to "Call-a-Pacer" at the Indianapolis Public Library's 24-hour Call-a-Story telephone line at (317) 275-4444 or toll-free at (877) 275-9007. The service continues through June 9 with a new weekly reader debuting each Monday.

All-Star forward Paul George takes on "Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend" in a couple weeks. Later in the lineup comes David West's rendition of "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear," just to name a few. It's a safe bet that kids aren't the only ones dialing the service.
