Movie Review: The Great Gatsby

Baz Luhrmann's latest project has been tackling that classic American novel dreaded by all high schoolers: The Great Gatsby. This new film stays with Luhrmann's usual style of a visually stunning, morally questionable, high-powered party set to modern music. NUVO reviewer Ed Johnson-Ott was not impressed with the depth of the movie and had this to say:

"Luhrmann's take on the novel is filmed in Annoy-a-Vision, an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach where the filmmaker ladles excess on glitz on clutter on razzmatazz, covers the whole thing in jimmies and glitter and then uses his camera to whoosh from here to there because God forbid anyone has to wait even a whole instant for their visual gratification."
