Re: “Will Cooler Heads Prevail?

@Katherine: Your statement "It's interesting to note that contemporary architectural guidelines would not allow building with a flat roof" is patently false.

I am building a house at this very moment with a large portion of flat roof. The vast majority of commercial structures have flat roofs. The issue with these historic homes is that the materials used in the roofing and flashing - those available at that time of construction - are nowhere nearly as durable and efficient as contemporary materials. White TPO is miles ahead of rolled roofs or asphalt and gravel. Not only is it much more durable, it's significantly lighter, allowing for wider spans in eaves, is reflective to reduce cooling loads, and is warrantable.

The house deserves rescue, and ought to be brought back to its original form, flat roof and all.

Re: “Will Cooler Heads Prevail?

Where can I get a copy of his book "Contemporary Houses of the Mid-20th Century in the State of Indiana"?
