Re: “Gotta Have Faith

This song has been my spiritual go-to since I heard the comedian John Hodgman cover it on his Netflix special. I love it because it's kind of about mysteries and miracles we take for granted, and hints at our abilities--and maybe even a need--to act against any forces that try to work against us.…

Re: “Haunting Melodies

This morning, I put on old mix CD someone had given me and heard "Little Ghost" by The White Stripes. I thought "Hmm. This is very Halloweeny." :)

Re: “This Year's Model

It's true that since I signed up for Spotify--I also do a paid subscription-- I spend less time with albums. And, sometimes I feel overwhelmed and a bit paralyzed by all the options I have.

But, before Spotify, I probably didn't get to experience as diverse an array of music and artists as I do now. I had a limited music-buying budget, and if I was going to shell out $15.99 for an album, I kinda wanted it to be a sure thing. So, I tended to stick with artists and genres I already knew I liked. So, in a way, since I do listen to more new (or new to me artists) now, than I did before, I feel like I'm doing a better job supporting new artists than I did with the old music-buying model. It might not be translating into big bucks for them, but I do at least hear their stuff, whereas I might not have before...

Re: “State of the Music II

Thanks so much for this. Timing is the number one reason I don't see shows anymore. I wish more bands and/or venues would take that issue seriously. People who have day jobs should be able to enjoy the music scene too. (Plus, since we have jobs we can spend more money to see a show/ buy drinks, etc. Think about it, business runners.)
