And Now We Dance

We've heard the artistic directors David Hochoy of Dance Kaleidescope and Erik Stark of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, along with Krzysztof Krzysztof Urbański, music director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra speak about their collaborative efforts on Maurice Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé. We've watched as the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir practiced and perfected their wordless voices in preparation for this amazing production. Now we get a glimpse of the dancers -- Jillian "Chloé" Godwin and Brandon "Daphnis" Comer, as they walk through their routines and tell of their roles in tomorrow and Saturday night's production of Daphnis et Chloé at Clowes Hall. Watch as costume designer Michele Hankins consults with the Dance Kaleidescope team on wardrobe, and see Hochoy in his element as he lends guidance to the couple's routine.

Godwin and Comer describe the honor of being in their roles and tell a bit about their characters within the ballet's storyline -- it's a love triangle fraught with twists and turns (literally and metaphorically). And as Godwin sums it up: She's happy to be a part of this big artistic extravaganza among three of the city's top performing arts organizations, but she's sad to only get to do it twice.

Hopefully you'll be one of the fortunate ones to see a live performance of it this weekend. Until then (or if only here), our friends at WFYI have put together for Sky Blue Window readers one last installment -- Ravel Rousers Part III, the Dancers of Daphnis et Chloé.
