A Little History

We love museums. From the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, and from the Indianapolis Museum of Art to the Indiana State Museum, we love history we can see. Still, it takes time to drive on down and look at our favorite pieces. Unless they're in our house (or even in our pockets).

That's the premise behind the Mini Museum by Hans Fex. It's a resin sheet full of incredible fragments of history that'll bring out the nerd in everyone. The breadth of pieces in each Mini Museum is ridiculous, including items such as dinosaur bones, parts of the Apollo 11 command capsule, wrappings from a mummy and soil from the real Dracula's castle, to name a few. Depending on the size of museum you want, you can get between 11 and 33 specimens, all suspended and labeled in the clear resin. Fex is a curiosity himself, a science-obsessed son of a former National Institute of Health science director, who apparently makes each mini museum by hand.

Fex doesn't offer much beyond his assurances that the specimens encased in these museums are legit, though he has a license to own many of them. If you're willing to take the risk, you'll have to move quickly; most of the less expensive models have already been grabbed up. But you can still purchase one of the 11-specimen museums that start at $99 and come with an online companion book. Fex hasn't said when, or if, he'll make more beyond this production run.
