Fashionably Forward Indy

Posted By on Fri, Aug 16, 2013 at 6:00 AM

Well, it's that time again. The Indiana State Fair is in full swing! An outsider would believe there's nothing going here but 4-H conventions, livestock shows and fried butter for sale. Though this is partially and wonderfully true, this blog is about fashion. One of the best deals about Indy is the ability to have the best of both worlds. On one side of town, the nation's largest hog is on display and on the other, a fashion show with emerging fashion stars send their latest looks down a catwalk. A movement has started, called Fashion Forward Indy, a company founded by two friends, Sarah and Kandis, who have grand ideas about fashion as art and how to share it with our community. I caught up with the fabulous duo to tell me more about the art of being Fashion Forward and what's happening next.

What is the idea behind Fashion Forward Indy?

Sarah: I had a vision of presenting fashion in a new light that would also impact the community and help talented individuals have a forum to represent their passion. Fashion forward is here to create a community of people who love fashion and want to uplift their community and the world.

Tell me about your fashion show coming up?

Sarah: This fashion show is a representation of our passion for enlightening people who are like-minded but afraid to step out of the box. It's also to promote those that have a small business or want to be a model, design, whatever - we want to connect them to an opportunity.

Why is fashion art to you?

Sarah: Because like art it's a form of expression, it never ceases. It's subjective and always changing.

What inspires you?

Kandis: Books, media, technology, music, dreams, everything!

Sarah: Life, different cultures, love, music, daydreams...

What can we expect from Fashion Forward in the future?

Sarah: From Fashion Forward you can expect connections, creating opportunities, community involvement, hosting charitable events, overall growth, enlightening the masses on the depth and importance of Fashion and style.

Coco Chanel said "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." This is ringing true for fashionistas in Indy. With the emergence of Pattern Magazine and staples like Midwest Fashion Week - we're seeing a more well-rounded arts scene much like any other large city. The Circle City is coming, well, full circle.
