Living in downtown Indianapolis has its benefits. There are several restaurants, sports bars, coffee shops, art galleries and parks. But what if your apartment building had all of that and more? How many apartment buildings in downtown Indianapolis have an art gallery, theater, café, bocce court, putting green and a pool? Well, none right now.
The Artistry, a new apartment opening in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, is currently in construction and will offer residents a more cultural living experience. The building will offer the above-mentioned facilities as well as two interior courtyards, an indoor vegetable garden and a 24-hour wellness center.
Milhaus Development is breathing new life into the old Bank One Operations Center on east Market St. by transforming the former two-story building into a five-story mini metropolis.
"We've designed the project to appeal to people that want a very convenient location but also a space that is unlike any other apartment downtown," said David Leazenby, Vice President of Milhaus Development. "We've been careful to respect the integrity of the existing building and create some really special units as a result."
The Artistry will also display art pieces created by Indiana artists throughout the building. Milhaus held an artist callout, asking for local artists to submit their works to be displayed in the common spaces of the building. Over 60 art submissions were received for the artist callout.
Milhaus Development teamed up with Q7 Associates, a local marketing and advertising firm, to create the theme of the Artistry apartment building.
"In the beginning, Milhaus asked us to assist with the naming of the building, and we went on to help set the stage for the artistic concept," said Scott Tucker, Content Producer for Q7 Associates.
The building will feature an art gallery that will be accessible to the public. "The idea is to have the gallery be a part of the First Friday events," said GK Rowe, Creative Director for Q7 Associates. "The pieces will be owned by the building and rotated periodically. The gallery will also have its own entrance for the general public."
The concept behind the apartment building is a revitalization of the area downtown and a respect of art and culture.
"We do want people to realize that this is a residence, but it is wrapped around the appreciation of the arts," said Rowe.
Aside from the art, the rooftop pool, along with the recreation deck, overlooking the downtown skyline is one of the most appealing aspects of the building.
"There aren't many pools downtown," said Tiffany Garritano, Art Director for Q7 Associates. "It's one of the centerpieces of the building."
The building is also LEED-certified; the residents will have energy efficient appliances in their apartments. Recycling and laundry facilities will be available on site and parking will be available in the building for residents.
The building will offer over 200 unique studios, one, two and three bedroom units ranging from $800 to $1,800. Leasing began in May 2013 and there is already a waiting list for the initial move-in in October.
