Blueprints and Patterns

A lot can happen in three years. For proof, look no further than Indy's Pattern. What began as a small startup with big ideas launched a stunning, slick print publication - with five issues printed and bound. What's more, this collective of fashion experts has held numerous gatherings designed to amp up the city's fashion chatter and cultivated a community of style-savvy individuals through its grassroots support of local boutiques, designers, photographers, makeup artists, hair stylists and everyone in between. But now the organization wants to launch a real space to advance its work -- a retail store for men and women's clothing, HQ for the magazine and gathering place for fashion events.

Citing a need for a "physical hub where both makers and lovers of fashion can connect on a daily basis," the folks at Pattern have decided to open up a brick-and-mortar store on Mass Ave. The new spot will neighbor Yats, Homespun, Indy Reads Books and Natural Born Juicers, among others.

With early success raising funds for initial opening expenses, the organization now finds itself asking local supporters to help in funding its latest project. In an effort to raise $10,000 prior to the store's Aug. 1 opening date, Pattern launched a Kickstarter campaign yesterday, calling upon the same community that helped launch its internationally distributed, award-winning magazine. With 29 days and counting, supporters can now back the store, as the group turns yet another precisely styled, fashion-forward page.
